SS18 Fashion Trends That I am Looking Forward to This Year

As winter draws to a close we bring spring’s delightful colours, fabrics and patterns back into our lives. We start seeing glimpses of the liveliest pastels, floral patterns start blooming everywhere and layering is soon forgotten and left behind until the cold autumn nights start rolling in. Spring is only a few weeks away, and I couldn’t be more excited to do a round-up of my favourite trends for the upcoming season.

Polka Dots

Polka dots will never go out of style if you ask me. It’s one of the eternal prints that will always be spot on (pun intended) and which keeps coming back in style with a different twist. Personally, I absolutely love them – they’re feminine, chic and versatile. One of the greatest things about polka dots is that they are easy to wear and you can go from romantic to casual in no time. Dress up a midi dotted dress with a pair of heeled sandals and you can consider your outfit sorted for a date night. Or throw a pair of converse and a cross-body bag into the mix for that casual yet chic vibe.

My style guide: always monochrome ones, I would wear them with a pleated skirt or a pair of tailored trousers.

What would spring be without the lovely pastels? If during winter I live in black and grey, I can say without a doubt that my wardrobe starts blooming with the first sight of sunshine. Pastels are such great transition colours into spring and are a lovely, soft option for when the temperatures become friendlier again. Pastels are really on trend this season, as seen on the biggest designer runaways, from lemons to lilac and purple, so I can’t wait to bring mine out into the world.

My style guide: a pastel blazer or a maxi dress would be the dream for me.

Trench Coats

Oh, the trench coat – everyone’s go-to coat piece when they want to look effortlessly stylish. For a long time, trench coats have been associated with a classic look and had more of a utilitarian clothing focus, but they have been reinvented so much that they have become a staple, an essential piece to have in your wardrobe and are more cool than classic these days. Trench coats have been seen on the radar this season (hooray) and I couldn’t be more excited since it’s the outerwear piece I use the most during spring and early autumn days.

My style guide: I would choose a camel-sandy colour trench coat and wear it with a pair of tailored trousers, a shirt and a pair of statement earrings.

Yellow Dresses

I love monochromes, but once in a while, I do like to inject a bit of colour in my wardrobe, especially during the warmer months. I wouldn’t say yellow is necessarily my colour, but I do particularly love yellow dresses, and find them to be really chic and elegant. Also, I’ve always felt like yellow really brightens up my mood so whenever I’m in a need for a boost of energy I would definitely rely on a yellow outfit to make me feel like myself again. Yellow dresses are going to be a huge trend this season so start digging through your wardrobe and get those sunny outfits out for a stroll.

My style guide: I would go for black or royal blue accessories for a bit of contrast.
